Structural Engineering
REX Engineering Group is seeking a self-motivated, client focused, Associate Principal Structural Engineer Dept. to lead our Structural Engineering team.
Candidate should be able to work independently on all design aspects of projects, work with other disciplines to manage projects effectively, and manage the production and delivery of design documents. Engineer may work on several concurrent projects. Ability to provide mentoring and guidance for colleagues.
Excellent oral and written communication skills, effective problem-solving skills, strong organizational and decision-making skills are required. Ability to work on multiple projects and priorities in a fast-paced environment is key. Participation in internal office collaboration and the external professional community is encouraged.

Responsibilities
- Oversee Building Design group and Construction Engineering group.
- Building design group works in small to mid-size new construction, and renovation/adaptive reuse.
- Construction engineering group works in Structural Steel connection design, Stair and Rail design, Aluminum panel and data center grid design, and erection engineering.
- Participate in business development efforts for both Construction Engineering and Building Design groups.
- Write proposals for prospective new work, including document review and client discussion to determine scope.
- Manage structural engineering staff to assign projects and maintain schedule and deadlines
- Provide supervision/mentoring of engineers and quality review of projects.
- Involvement in group-wide standards and process development.
- Approximately 50% of time will be on production engineering work, and 50% on BD/PM and general oversight.
- Performs lead structural engineering design responsibilities on multiple projects, including establishing criteria and standards, and preparing calculations, reports, and project drawings and specifications.
- Collaborate with clients to develop solutions and resolve issues
- Oversee project financials and billing
Requirements
- 15+ years of experience in structural engineering.
- B.S. in Structural Engineering, Civil Engineering or relevant from ABET-accredited school. Master’s degree preferred.
- Experience in design of structural steel, concrete, light gage steel, wood, aluminum and masonry.
- Experience in structural steel connection design and design of metal stairs and rails.
- P.E. license required.
- S.E. license required (or ability to obtain quickly).
- Ability to get licensed in additional states.
- Active in professional organizations a plus.
- Experience writing and editing specifications.
- Excellent organization, delegation, and time management skills.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Experience in managing a staff of engineers.
