The University of Illinois School of Architecture conducted a search for the Kerbis Fellow in structures, materials and innovation that resulted in hiring two internationally renowned structural engineers, including Jim Pawlikowski, the Principal and Director of Engineering at REX Engineering Group.

Jim earned both his bachelor’s degree in architecture and master’s degree in structural engineering / architecture from the University of Illinois and has been a consistent guest lecturer over the past two decades.

Jim’s portfolio of work includes the Burj Khalifa, the tallest building in the world located in Dubai; the NATO Headquarters in Brussels; 10 Exchange Square in London; Address Skyview in Dubai; and multiple buildings in the United States including the Instructional Facility for the School of Engineering at the University of Illinois.

James Pawlikowski

“I’m ecstatic to teach at my alma mater as a fellow and to do so the year a building that I had a hand in engineering opened on the Urbana campus. This fellowship is an honor and a privilege for someone like me that bleeds blue and orange.”

Jim will teach a graduate-level course on Soil Mechanics and Foundation Design this fall and in the spring semester, he will teach the Design of Tall Buildings course.
